In this week's [episode](https://youtube.com/live/fzAInrosE0E) of the [Twinning Strategy](https://www.youtube.com/@TwinningStrategy/streams) [podcast](https://creators.spotify.com/pod/show/eric3397/episodes/Episode-70-Powering-Up-Elenco-Transforming-a-50-year-old-family-business-e33k5tg) "Powering Up Elenco," [Anthony Trani](https://www.linkedin.com/in/anthonytrani/), CEO of [Elenco Electronics](https://elenco.com/), shares insights into transforming a 50-year-old family business while navigating the complexities of the modern toy industry. A particular highlight of the conversation revolves around Elenco flagship product—Snap Circuits, an engaging educational toy designed to spark interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) among children and young learners.

From the outset, Trani addresses the challenges that small businesses face in a fluctuating market, particularly emphasizing how uncertainty and tariffs impact operations. Amidst these challenges, he advocates for a focus on what businesses can control—whether it's managing vendor relationships or optimizing cash flow. His approach is refreshingly pragmatic, emphasizing the importance of adaptability and creative problem-solving in a dynamic landscape, reflections of which he has woven into the culture at Elenco.

One particularly relatable moment came when Trani shared how Snap Circuits have become more than just a product; they serve as a gateway to engineering for many kids. He recounted heartwarming letters from children who express gratitude for how these toys inspired them to pursue careers in engineering. This inherent connection between education and play is something Trani is committed to expanding as they evolve their offerings, which also includes branching out into the educational market where Snap Circuits are utilized by teachers nationwide.

The conversation transitions into the technological advancements that are reshaping the industry. Trani shares thoughts on how AI and user-friendly innovation could redefine educational products, sparking excitement about the potential for future developments. He posits that the key to staying relevant and effective in this space is to continually engage with educators to understand their needs, thus ensuring that Elenco offerings remain not only entertaining but also invaluable learning tools.

As the episode closes, viewers are left with a sense of hope and forward momentum. Trani emphasizes that showing up—both in terms of presence and intention—is crucial for success. His journey with Elenco illustrates that a blend of experience, creativity, and a commitment to the community can indeed lead to transformative change in a longstanding family business.

Whether you're an entrepreneur, educator, or parent, the insights shared in this episode resonate powerfully. The balance between tradition and innovation is delicate, yet those who adapt and listen to their audience can shape a bright future, not just for their enterprise but for the generations they serve.
